I served as one of the lead content generators for The Parks Lifestyle Magazine, interviewing professionals in and around Orland Park, Illinois. The highlight of working for this magazine was an interview with legendary sports radio host, Terry Boers. The profile made the cover of June’s issue of the magazine.
In the summer of 2016, I was contracted by UrbanBound to create a Chicago City and Suburbs Guide for their company. The guide consists of detailing the cost of living and attractions in neighborhoods in and around the city, and is provided by UrbanBound to companies who are relocating employees to Chicago. Every year, I go through the guide and make edits and updates to reflect changes in cost of living and replacing attractions (restaurants, stores, museums, etc.) that may have closed within the last year. This guide that I’ve written helps readers acclimate to the city of Chicago.
During my time as a staff writer for Fan Fest’s website, I was also a social media manager at their annual convention in Chicago. This is a large-scale event where fans from all around the world come to meet the stars of their favorite shows. There are panels and events all throughout the weekend that need to be documented on social media. My job was to develop content for Fan Fest’s Snapchat which receives thousands upon thousands of views. I took this content and created a highlight reel of the weekend. I was also social media manager for Chicago’s Rewind Con in 2016, where I took on of the role of total social media promotion before, during, and after the event. I also acted as the convention’s self-taught publicist and secured press leading up to the event. Check out the highlight reel I created for this event.
I became a freelance writer for the Chicago Bar Project in 2017, where my role was to visit, photograph, and review bars in and around the city. The reviews allowed me to blend my nonfiction writing skills with my creative writing skills as they required information about the history of the establishment, along with the in-depth review. My role expanded later that year as I became a copy editor for the website, giving the online database a complete overhaul of edits and fact-checking.
As a social media intern for Lattes, Life & Luggage (as well as Beneath the Chandelier) during the summer of 2015, I worked as a social media content creator for both blogs. I also contributed pieces to Lattes, Life & Luggage, creating content and graphics. During my time as an intern, the traffic for both websites increased by 300 percent.
